A lot of people love butter. Aside from spreading it over bread, this food can also be used for cooking different types of cuisine. It goes great with chicken, pork, beef and various types of fishes. But while it is a very popular, only a handful of people know that there are different types of butter.

Unsalted Butter

As the name suggest, it does not contain salt. Compared to the other types of butter, this contains about 80% milk fat. If you are baking or making pan sauce, we recommend using unsalted butter. By far, this is the most versatile in cooking amongst the different types of butter. If you also want to control your salt intake, then this butter will be your ideal choice.

 

Salted Butter

Salted butter is another type of butter. This can be used for baking; however, most recipes tend to use unsalted type. This is due to the fact that it is easier to readjust the seasonings in the recipe with unsalted butter. Nevertheless, this type of butter is also great for toasted or garlic bread.

 

Whipped Butter

Whipped butter offers a fluffier and lighter texture. This type of butter is known to contain fewer calories. And while this isn’t recommended for cooking and baking, it goes great for spreading over toasts. It can also be used for finishing dishes.

 

Cultured Butter

Cultured butter is one of the oldest butter in the world. Traditionally, people collected the cream they skimmed of their fresh milk over a few days. Then once they have enough amount of cream, they churn the cream and turn it butter. This time paved way for the cream to start fermenting – that is cultured butter.

These days, instead of natural fermentation, bacteria is added to the cream. The end result may be the same. But according to many people, who have tasted both, traditionally-made cultured butter offers additional aroma and is usually more buttery.

 

Spreadable Butter

Spreadable butter is known to contain lower amounts of saturated fats and calories. Usually, vegetable oils are combined with butter, allowing this type to have a soft texture. This in turn, makes this butter the most ideal when it comes to spreading over bread.

 

Ghee or Clarified Butter

Clarified butter is a type of butter that is made from rendering butter. This is known to have a higher smoke point, due to the fact that it lacks of burnable milk solids. Thus, it can be used for frying foods. It also has a longer shelf life than other types of butter, because it contains less water, which encourages spoilage.
